Good god, I don't even know where to begin with this massive monster of a book.
Lemme start with saying that it's difficult to get into. Stephenson makes a stupid words for random shit and tries to pass it off as French sounding (for example Arbrè; in the forward he suggests you consult a French speaker to learn how to pronounce it). Or do you know what a 'jeejah' is? Cause fuck I'm 163 pages in and I still can't figure that one out. I think maybe its like a cellphone????
And then totally beside the pretentious bullshit words he makes up, this book is SLOW. I'm a good chunk of the way into the book and the plot is barely taking off yet. The engines are firing but its barely off the ground, let alone clearing the launch pad.
In spite in this I'm starting to get into it. The plot is wildly different and creative, and the characters are interesting. I keep contemplating what it would be like to live in a monastery full of mathematician astronomer monks who are 95% sealed off from the rest of the world on another planet.
